An even newer kid on the block is Above Allen, the swank outdoor lounge on the seventh floor of the Thompson LES hotel. Getting into the bar can be tricky, but not for those who partake in the Asian fusion delights offered a few floors below at Shang, where Toronto’s celebrity chef Susur Lee serves wildly tasty Asian creations like a 19-ingredient Singapore Slaw. A loyal following of Canadians, who seem to have made the trip down just to enjoy more of Lee’s cooking, populate the restaurant. But upstairs is pure New York City, with the requisite mix of celebrities, like Ed Westwick of “Gossip Girl,” and nightlife kingpin Noah Tepperberg of Marquee.
